The wave beat unyieldingly against the rock until it was unrecognizable.
“Look at you,” said the wave to the rock,
“What have you done to yourself?”
And the sounds caught on the echo of the world,
Hung on branches,
Froze in the wintertime,
Lingered in the air,
Until even passing birds wondered.
So the rock turned inward and cursed himself
And forgot all about the waves still pounding.
